Tattoo'd monkey

I was able to make a little crocheted heart tattoo for Richard the sock monkey, unfortunately I couldn't fit "MOM" on it.  Oh well, it's still very cute!!!

Richard Cranium is alive and well....

Richard is the name that my fabulous husband gave to the sock monkey I just finished crocheting.  It was a very fun project to make and I will be gifting Mr. Cranium to a wonderful friend as a gift for her new nephew.  I'm going to attempt to crochet a heart "Mom" tattoo for it.

So, here you go ladies - I've finally updated my blog after no entries for over a year.  I vow to try my best to post regular updates.  It's a little hard because I see ya'll at least once a week, sometimes more...

Thought I'd share this picture of my hairy hairless dog.  He's overdue for his grooming session. Wham's looks so peaceful, boy will he be in for a surprise.  Stay tuned for a post-grooming photo!

Recovering from a car show hangover...

Last night we attended the 9th Annual Hi-Performance Car Show to benefit the Darrell Gwynn Foundation. (www.darrellgwynnfoundation.org) It was a long day. We started about 12pm preparing the dragster and loading the trailer. Finally at 5pm we were able to drive the dragster into the show site and get set up - what a beautiful night!!

Lots of classic cars (and dragster/race cars) showed up and a huge crowd. The foundation gave away a $30K wheelchair to a young boy from Puerto Rico and raised quite a bit of money. At one point they cranked up all the race cars and you couldn't hear yourself think. My husband finally got our dragster started on the second try (after realizing you need to turn on the gas lines to the engine) and a 1000hp engine roared to life - I still can't get over the fact that he straps himself into this thing and goes almost over 175mph in a 1/4 mile. I started knitting on my cushion but once the sun went down it was a little dark to work with the dark yarn.

Since working on the cushion wasn't going to happen, I decided to make the Cable Headband (pattern available on Ravelry). I had one skein of Elsebeth Lavold Silky Cashmere in Ivory (only 44 yards) and had been thinking of something to make with it - the headband was perfect. I finished it that night (I had enough time as we didn't even leave till after 10pm).

All in all it was a wonderful night. My husband and I have spent the day recovering from our car show hangover and resting up for the next one.

How hard is it...

...to just bag my groceries in a logical fashion? I went grocery shopping this afternoon at a large chain that prides itself on customer service - the biggest beef I have with them (aside from expired product on their shelves and high prices) is that the baggers can't seem to bag groceries in a logical fashion. When I place my groceries on the belt I put all heavy canned goods first (hoping that they will go in the cart first) than bottles, boxes, etc. I keep all my meats together and cold items together - hoping that they will be bagged together thus making it easier for me if I need to just get the cold items in the house when I get home. BUT NOOOOOOOOO!! This would be too easy - instead I get to spend a half hour putting away groceries because it has now turned into a treasure hunt to try and locate all the cold/frozen items in order to limit the number of times that I have to open the fridge. From now on my policy will be "Hands Off! I'm bagging my own!!"

On a lighter note today was the first Chick Flick & Knit - very enjoyable. Today's feature was "The Notebook" and my knitting buddy and myself were in tears by the end of the movie. I was so wrapped up in the ending that I messed up a whole row of knitting on my preemie waffle blanket. However, I was thrilled to finish the knitting on my Counterpane Inspired bag - now I just need to find a nice lining and finish it up (perhaps next weekend).

Well, time to get a little knitting done before bed. The puppies are tired from having company today. Little Ricky is already curled up and passed out on the couch.

Back to blogging...

Ok, I'm back to the blogging. I'm determined to give this a try. Things became very crazy around here. My mother-in-law lost her battle with cancer on September 11, 2008. The last few months have been very stressful and I am just hoping to get through the holidays. In addition to mourning my MIL we have unsuccessfully been trying to start a family and now that will be on hold for a few months. Through it all though knitting has been the one thing that has enabled me to keep my sanity. I joined a local knitting group and have met some wonderful people. I also have been lucky enough to meet one lady and become good friends with her.

So, let's get through Christmas and hopefully it'll all be better from here on out. Here is the beautiful yarn that my knitting friend gave me for Christmas - she's so sweet. She also made me stitch markers (I'll post a picture soon!)
